Getting vaccinated against the flu is a smart idea. Perhaps you’re anxious about contracting the illness or taking time off work. Maybe you just want to make sure it doesn’t be passed on to your family’s more vulnerable members. Having the flu vaccine against this year’s strain of seasonal flu can provide protection and peace of mind for whatever reason.
People over the age of 18 who are eligible for a free flu vaccine are given one by the NHS.
For the flu season 2022/23, the NHS flu vaccine is eligible for:
– Adults 65 and over
– People with certain medical conditions (including children in at-risk groups from 6 months of age)
– Pregnant women
– People living with someone who’s at high risk from coronavirus (on the NHS shielded patient list)
– Frontline health or social care workers
Since November 2020, the free service has been extended to anyone above the age of 50.
We can still give you a private flu vaccination if you do not qualify for a free NHS flu jab, and this applies to both under 65s and over 65s.
Who shouldn’t have the flu jab?
The flu vaccine is available to the majority of people. There are, however, a few exceptions:
- If you’re sick and have a fever, you should postpone having the flu shot.
- If you are allergic to eggs, see your doctor or pharmacist before obtaining the vaccine.
Please contact our pharmacy staff to learn more about eligibility, how to acquire your NHS flu shot, and how to schedule this service.
